Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition is set for PS5 release, featuring new modes and story content. Here's what we know so far.
Sony and PlayStation have officially announced the upcoming release of Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, a revamped version of the 2025 open-world action game. This edition is set to launch on October 1, 2026, and will include additional content not found in the original release.
Similar to the Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, the Complete Edition of Yōtei is described as a 'definitive' version. It will feature the online co-op mode Legends, all content from the original's Digital Deluxe Edition, new music in Watanabe Mode, fresh Photo Mode stamps, additional cosmetics for New Game Plus, and new Trophies.
One of the standout additions is a new roguelike survival mode titled Most Wanted. In this mode, players will accept bounties and eliminate enemies, gaining power and tools with each contract fulfilled. Players can also unlock new characters, each specializing in different weapons available in the game. This mode has drawn comparisons to the No Return mode from The Last of Us, Part 2 Remastered.
In addition to gameplay enhancements, the Complete Edition will introduce a new story chapter called Echoes of Sekigahara. This bonus episode promises a fresh narrative, exploring new locations and characters. Players will experience a dual timeline, alternating between present-day events and flashbacks to Atsu's past on the mainland. The storyline will feature encounters with Nagato, a figure from Atsu's history, and will allow exploration of a previously unseen valley once occupied by The Snake and his followers, the Vipers. Additionally, players will engage in the Battle of Sekigahara, uncovering significant moments from Atsu's life.
For those who already own the original Ghost of Yōtei, there is good news: existing PS5 accounts can upgrade to the Complete Edition for a reduced price of £11.99/$14.99. This upgrade approach has been seen previously with other titles, although it has received mixed reactions from players.
While the original game received praise for its swordplay and storytelling, some criticism was aimed at its sidequests and open-world design. Nonetheless, it remains a visually striking experience, particularly with its unique lo-fi mode.
As the release date approaches, fans can look forward to more details about the Complete Edition, including gameplay reveals and further insights into the new story content. The announcement trailer is already available, showcasing what players can expect from this enhanced version.
